Toronto Beer Events Guide (Coming Soon!)

summer pintAfter spending a lovely Saturday afternoon down on the Amsterdam Brewhouse patio, I came to the sudden realization that Summer really is just around the corner. And with the summer heat comes one of my favourite outdoor activities: beer festivals!

This is going to be an excellent summer for beer enthusiasts in Ontario.

Come back Thursday for the full list of festivals, dinners, and other beer-related events taking place across the province over the next few months.

My Summer of Beer

Greetings and Salutations! First off, my apologies for the sporadic posting of late, my schedule has been up and down due to starting a new job (yay!). With Great Lakes Brewery. That’s right, I am now going to be working for the Canadian Brewery of the Year for 2013 & 2014 as one of their event staff. I am super excited and really looking forward to a summer of delicious craft beer with many events, festivals, and unique opportunities to try out some unusual brews. (mention SOBDL?)

As the spring and summer play out I will update this blog with upcoming events and festivals and hopefully I will meet some of you there! For now you should know that Great Lakes Brewery is handing out free samples of both Canuck Pale Ale AND Pompous Ass English Pale Ale at The Court Jester Pub (Located at 681 Danforth Ave) from 5:30-8:30pm this Thursday, April 9. I will not be there myself but if you’re in the area it’s well worth it to drop by, enjoy a tasty sample or two, and try something off the pub’s extensive menu.

Glassware Guide Now Live

Due to some unexpected technological issues in the last week the glassware guide took a bit longer to create than expected. Luckily I was able to make some good use of the long weekend in order to get everything sorted out and today I am able to announce the launching of the Drunk Kitten glassware guide!

Featuring some handy pouring tips and purchasing guides, it is a complete guide to finding the best glass for your favourite beer. Take a look and feel free to leave suggestions for additions or improvements below!

Coming Soon: Glassware Guide

glassware promo postThat’s right, I am putting the finishing touches on my handy glassware guide and expect to have it all ready for next week. Once complete it will provide descriptions and pictures of the appropriate glassware for each type of beer along with some helpful tasting notes for when you just aren’t sure. I am also including some great places to purchase all the various styles, shapes, and sizes of glassware so you can make sure that every beer you drink at home is served exactly as the brewer intended!

Come back Thursday next week for another delicious beer review and then join me Monday to learn everything you will need to know about how glasses affect the aroma and flavour of your favourite brew!

Big Announcement Coming Soon!

That’s right: Next weekend I will be unveiling my super-duper exciting plans for the month of December as well as a super exciting (for me anyway) sister site that will be launching December 1! I know I have been MIA lately, I have been writing away trying to finish NaNoWriMo (only at 30 000 words so far, eek!) as well as working on my big project for next month. But it will (should) be worth it so be sure to come back next week for the big reveal!

And if you like delicious, one-off beers and happen to have lady parts instead of man parts, don’t miss out on the last Bevy of 2014! Grab your tickets for next Friday here.

Sorry! Tune in Tomorrow

With a full day worth of cleaning to do before company arrives, I didn’t get a chance to tell you all about my delicious evening at Bryden’s Pub last night. Once again plans to trek out to the Danforth were derailed by a nice evening and strong desire for a nice walk before dinner (instead of a half hour or more subway ride). Having never tried this well-known establishment in our neck of the woods, we were easily convinced to wander over there instead. Read all about it – and check out the promised beer guides – tomorrow afternoon!

Happy Caturday!
Cheers!

Coming This Weekend: New Beer Guides!

That’s right, this weekend I will have a few more beer guides for you to peruse before the summer is over! I am also planning another exciting craft beer passport stop that should knock at least a couple more places off my list and give me lots of new brews to tell you all about! So tune back in on Saturday for some delicious recommendations and tales of my beery exploits.

Beer Guides to Come

  • Porters – August 23
  • Wheat Beer – August 23
  • Saison/Farmhouse Beer – September 6
  • Gluten Free – September 6
  • APAs – September 13
  • Pilsners – September 13
  • + more to come!

You may notice the two week gap in there in between this weekend and the first weekend of September. There is a very good reason for this: Bevy 0008! On August 30 I will instead bring you an in-depth round-up of the highly anticipated (by me at least) and sold-out event.

26 Jul

Starting Tomorrow Monday: Beer Weekend Round-Up

Including:

  • Indie Alehouse & Nickel Brook’s tasty new sessional IPA collaboration: Weak Day Warrior
  • The food and beer of Bevy 0007; and
  • Beery shenanigans at the Toronto Festival of Beer.

We’ll start tomorrow Monday with a review of Bevy 0007, follow that up with  coverage of beerfest on Tuesday, and finish off with my full review of my favourite new beer-treat on Wednesday! Enjoy the festival!
