The Best Beer Events in Toronto This Summer

As the days get hotter and we see more and more of the sun each day, it is natural that our thoughts turn to patios and cold, delicious beer. To get the most out of this summer, don’t miss out on the wealth of beer events in Toronto. From the Festival of Beer in July to the Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival, there are lots of ways to celebrate your favourite beverage – and enjoy some fantastic food while you are at it. The fun really gets going this weekend with events every few weeks for the rest of the season.

Don’t forget to pick up your Craft Beer Passport this weekend and get started on your city-wide beer sampling tour. Valid from June 1st to November 30th, the Craft Beer Passport costs $20 and will get you a $2 pint of a really amazing brew at 20 different bars and pubs. Passports will also be available for purchase at participating venues on June 1st.

The Only Cafe Beerfest

Dates: May 30-31
Location: The Only Cafe
Price: tickets $1 each, 5 oz per ticket

This weekend the Only Cafe hosts its seasonal Beerfest to celebrate the best of Spring. Drink tickets are $1 each and will get you a 5 oz sample of a variety of unique and interesting brews from some stellar brewers. And if you really like something, you can trade in 4 tickets for a 16 oz pint! Brewers differ from Friday to Saturday so if you can only make one, check their website to see which day you should brave the lines. Some the highlights for me include:

The Brewer’s Plate Toronto

Dates: June 4

This annual beer feast is now in its seventh year of pairing fantastic food with delicious beer in order to raise money and improve public education about sustainable local food and craft beer. Produced by Beerlicious Inc in association with the Catalyst Centre (a registered charity), the Brewer’s Plate is a great way to have a fantastic meal and feel good about it. Breweries participating this year include:

Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival

Dates: June 13-14
Location: Yonge & Dundas Square
Price: $39.50 – $99.50

This festival began as a finale to Ontario Craft Beer Week and aimed to bring breweries and their supporters together for a final celebration of craft beer at the end of the week. It started in 2010 to a backdrop of burning police cars and torrential storms but has thrived nonetheless. This year they are featuring what they are calling Collaboration Nation, a challenge to 30 craft brewers which pairs them with a celebrity in order to create a unique beer. For an extra-special experience, take a look at the Princess Pass. Basic tickets include:

  • A take-home sampling glass
  • 5 tasting tokens
  • Live music
  • Access to 30 unique beer collaborations
  • Over 100 craft beers

Beach BBQ & Brews Festival

Dates: June 13-15
Location: Woodbine Park
Price: pay as you go

This annual festival takes place each June over Father’s Day weekend. Family friendly and located at an incredible venue, the Beach BBQ & Brews Festival really does have something for everyone including:

  • Live music
  • A children’s area with rides
  • BBQ competition
  • Grilling demonstrations
  • Craft vendors
  • Beer and beverage vendors

Toronto’s Festival of Beer

Dates: July 25-27
Location: Bandshell Park, Exhibition Place
Price: $39.50 – $59.50

Certainly the city’s best known best festival, the Toronto Festival of Beer is hosted by the Beer Store and features over 300 brands onsite in a 3-day celebration of Canada’s rich brewing history. Each day has a special live musical guest performing while guests enjoy $1 samplings of a huge variety of different styles and flavours of beer. And did I mention the food? Oh yeah, there’s food and it is also delicious! Be sure to check our their website for information on the festival features including:

Hart House Craft Beer Festival

Dates: July 31
Location: Hart House Quad
Price: $36 – $52

This curated selection of Canadian craft breweries showcases the newest or most-beloved brews from craft breweries around the country. This year they are welcoming back Master Cicerone Mirella Amato for another 1 hour ExBEERiental Learning workshop to guide guests through the tasting experience. The workshop is extra but the basic ticket will get you:

  • Entrance to the event;
  • 8 beer sample tickets;
  • Take-home sampling glass; and
  • Access to the full-patio barbecue featuring Chef Marco Tucci.

The Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival

Dates: August 9-10
Location: Roundhouse Park
Price: TBA

Details for the Roundhouse festival have not been released yet but let this serve as a warning to save the date! This 2-day festival in downtown Toronto provides beer lovers the opportunity to sample Ontario’s finest craft brews and delicious food. With food trucks and a pleasant park setting, it is sure to be a great experience. Last year’s brewers included:
